Hormone Replacement Therapy

At Hygenerate, we utilize bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) modalities.  The beauty of BHRT, is that it is effective no matter what the cause of your hormone imbalance.  Bioidentical hormones are the safest and most natural form of hormone replacement available and are proven and effective.  Bioidentical Hormones are hormones that are chemically and structurally identical to the hormones naturally produced in the human body. Hormones are responsible for most functions (over 500) within our bodies.  Hormones at optimal levels not only help us feel our best, but also protect our bodies in terms of longevity and overall health.

There are numerous subtle and not so subtle ways our bodies will notify us that we are not functioning optimally.  Some of these signs and symptoms for abnormal hormone levels in women and men include:

  • Anxiety

  • Irritability

  • Fatigue

  • Loss of energy

  • Poor focus

  • Poor concentration

  • Depression

  • Osteoporosis

  • Decrease in sexual interest

  • Restless leg syndrome

  • Higher LDL cholesterol

  • Alzheimer’s

  • Weight gain (despite exercising)

  • Loss of memory

  • Overall loss of muscle mass and tone

  • Decreased nocturnal erections

  • Inability to maintain a hard erection

Testosterone (TRT)

In a man’s 20’s, the sky’s the limit.  He is unstoppable.  Testosterone production and hormonal production is at an all time high.  As the 30’s begin for men, subtle changes occur that include increased difficulty at maintaining muscle and increased weight gain as the metabolism declines.  Although peak muscle mass is usually reached in a man’s mid-30’s, reaching and maintaining it is not as easy as it was in his 20’s.  In their 40’s with continued hormonal level declination, many men notice a decrease in their motivation, lower libido with weaker, shorter erections, difficulty sleeping, and increased irritability.  When a man reaches his 50’s unaddressed low testosterone causes central obesity, increased fatigue, and brain fog ensues.

Did you know that 1 in 4 men suffer with low testosterone?  Although this is common, it does not mean it is normal or acceptable.  Our bodies are signaling something is wrong and although we know this, it can be challenging to put our fingers on it when approached with a lens of “normal” lab values.

Estrogen and Progesterone

In a woman’s 20’s the production of their main hormones (estrogen, progesterone, and yes, even testosterone) are in full swing and at their highest natural lifetime production.  Fertility is at its highest between a woman’s 20’s and early 30’s.  Women feel as though they can take on the world!  Estrogen is responsible for our skin elasticity and firmness.  As this begins to decline in a woman’s 30’s, some may see wrinkles and sagging of their skin begin to develop.  Up until most women’s 40’s, there has been predictability in the ebbing and flowing of estrogen and progesterone.  This is the time when increased variability of hormones occur and a decline overall of hormones continues.  Women notice increased weight gain, difficulty to maintain body temperature, increased fatigue but poorer sleep, brain fog, and many more unpleasant realities if hormonal imbalances are left untreated.

Did you know that it is estimated that 80 percent of women will have some form of hormonal imbalance at some point in their life. Although this is common, it does not mean it is normal or acceptable.

We approach labs from a functional or “optimal” standpoint. Functional/optimal labs have a narrow range in which those who fall into it feel better, have less fatigue, lose weight easier, feel their best (or like they did at a younger age) and so much more.  People whose systems are functioning in optimal ranges can fire with all cylinders working together to help them thrive in life as opposed to simply surviving.

“Normal” lab values are typically wide ranges and based upon sick people.  When we say this, we mean that with greater than 70% of our population having chronic illness (many times not even aware they do) and “normal” lab values being based on that, the bar is set quite low when you’re told that your labs are “normal”. By optimizing your hormones, a lot of times we validate how you’ve been feeling but have been unable to verbalize due to having the standard typical approach of “normal” versus “not normal” applied to you and your lab work by the majority of Western medical providers.  Hygenerate aims to take a combination approach to help you feel your best.
